Feel at home

Egg Freezing and its role in today’s society

July 23, 2019

We live in a world where women are educated to know that there is no limit on what we can achieve or become. But in some sense our education has let us down. Family planning for many of us did not go beyond a simple instruction to not have unprotected sex lest we should unintentionally fall pregnant or contract an unpleasant sexual infection.

What no-one really explained is that our fertility is not something we can forget or ignore. No-one made it clear to us that it does decline with age. I wonder whether the reason is that this is a taboo subject. That by talking to women about this there is a feeling that we are telling them to move out of the boardroom and return to the kitchen. And that’s just not true. We have to be brave and have these conversations because only by doing so do we truly empower women to make the best choices for them.

Egg freezing is one of those choices. A choice that we should talk about and educate women to consider. Because freezing eggs is not a life changing decision. It is a relatively simple process that allows women to preserve their prime fertility status and be able to use those eggs at a their chosen time in the future. The truth is, we are all born with our eggs, our ovarian reserve. We do not make any more eggs over time and so our eggs simply age. By freezing the eggs we are storing these younger, healthier eggs for a later time in our lives, maximising our chances of a successful pregnancy when we are older.

We feel passionately about empowering and educating women to make and have all the choices available to them. So, our senior consultant Mr Psaroudakis is offering a complimentary half hour consultation either in person at our centre on Harley Street or by phone if that suits you better. We hope this will give you the opportunity to explore this subject further and answer any questions you may have. If you would like to book this appointment please contact us by email at appointments@evewell.com or by phone on 020 3974 0950.

Mr Dimitri Psaroudakis is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists with a sub-speciality in reproductive health. Mr Psaroudakis trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and is now a Senior Consultant at the Evewell.
