Ovarian Cysts

Support throughout your lifetime

We specialise in the timely diagnosis, management and treatment of ovarian cysts. Our expert doctors will create an individualised treatment plan for you to help relieve your ovarian cysts and minimise the impact the ovarian cysts are having on your everyday life.

Diagnosing Ovarian Cysts

You may already have a diagnosis of ovarian cysts, or you may be concerned that symptoms such as heavy periods or irregular periods are signs that you have ovarian cysts. During an initial consultation, we will undertake a full review of your medical history, symptoms and how they are affecting you.

We will also undertake any tests necessary to find out if you have ovarian cysts. These may include:

  • A pelvic examination
  • Ultrasound scan
  • A laparoscopy where we use a small telescope to examine your pelvic area
  • A hysteroscopy where a small telescope is used to examine your uterine cavity

Treating Ovarian Cysts

You will not have to wait long for a diagnosis and we will be able to advise a treatment and management plan designed around your needs.

We provide a full range of treatment options for ovarian cysts. Your doctor will discuss all these options with you and our experienced care teams will be on hand to provide sensitive support and after care.

Pregnancy with Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts can cause infertility as it makes it more difficult to conceive naturally. Ovarian cysts do not have any effect on pregnancy. We offer a range of gynaecological treatments to relieve symptoms and fertility treatments to assist you having a baby.

Symptoms and Causes of Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts are lumps or growths, made up of muscle cells and other tissues that grow within the uterus.

These growths cause a range of fibroid symptoms, particularly around the time of your period, including:

  • Pelvic Pain
  • Painful periods (dysmenorrhoea)
  • Heavy periods
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Pelvic tenderness

If polycystic ovarian syndrome is severe, you may experience:

  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Infertility

Left untreated, ovarian cysts can lead to chronic ovarian cyst pain and long-term infertility.
