Mr Ed Coats is the Medical Director at The Evewell, West London, and a highly experienced fertility consultant, reproductive surgeon, and gynaecologist.
Ed studied Medicine at St George’s Hospital in London and went on to complete specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the South West of England, before training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in Nottingham. He earned his MD at the University of Nottingham, focusing on the impact of assisted reproduction techniques on IVF outcomes and specifically the importance of embryo transfer.
Having worked in the NHS for 15 years, Ed held the position of Consultant Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist at The Royal United Hospital in Bath, before becoming Medical Director at The Fertility Partnership in Oxford and later joining The Evewell.
Ed strongly believes in a holistic, individualised approach when creating evidence-based treatment plans. He considers the entire reproductive system and each patient’s personal circumstances, ensuring that individuals and couples understand every step of the process. His aim is to leave patients feeling confident, informed, and empowered.
Specialist interests
Ed’s areas of expertise include general infertility, reproductive endocrinology, menopause, and supporting female athletes in their family planning. He is also an experienced reproductive, laparoscopic, and hysteroscopic surgeon, specialising in the management of Asherman’s syndrome and thin endometrial lining.
Ed is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the British Fertility Society, and the British Menopause Society. He also holds diplomas in Sexual and Reproductive Health and a Master’s degree in Medical Law.
Beyond the clinic
Alongside his clinical work, Ed is passionate about education and awareness in fertility. He co-created The Total Fertility podcast and has featured on several BBC and Channel 4 documentaries. He has also been an Ambassador for the Wellbeing of Women charity for more than a decade.
Outside of medicine, Ed has raced to both the North and South Poles, represented Great Britain as a track and field decathlete, and led multiple endurance expeditions filmed for national television. He is also a highly regarded international keynote and motivational speaker, sharing insights on leadership, teamwork, and resilience.
